My Story

Cherry López was born in Los Angeles, California, and raised in Mexico. She is now based in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Cherry has been a visual artist for 11 years. She uses her intuition as an abstract expression of what she experiences in her inner world and with her senses. The composition of her work focuses on finding the rhythm of the unexpected. The impulse to create a piece not knowing how it will end is a fundamental element in her work and allows her to experiment and express what arises in the moment. In her work, there is Mexican influence such as landscapes, symbols, and popular culture, as she incorporates them into her technique using mostly acrylic, vibrant colors, textures, and mixed media.

She has participated in various events in Mexico and in the United States as an illustrator, artist, and curator. She organized and co-curated a show for more than 20 artists from different disciplines. She collaborated as the Chief of Community Relations of Urban Prophets Illustrated Zine in San Francisco, California.

I want people to have my art in their homes and for it to be incorporated in day to day experiences, and break the belief that art is only for museums and galleries.  I make art so that we can support each other through visual art to become more connected with each other's cultures.
